Title: Vice President, Business Development – Pharma & Laboratory Partnerships
Location: Remote (U.S.) with travel; NYC area preferred
Position Overview
A high-growth, venture-backed precision oncology company is seeking a Vice President of Business Development to lead strategic partnerships across pharmaceutical, biotech, and laboratory channels.
The company is at an inflection point, having recently secured early commercial traction and entering a phase focused on building scalable revenue through high-value partnerships. This individual will play a critical role in translating cutting-edge science into meaningful commercial relationships and long-term enterprise value.
This is a highly visible, externally facing role with a clear path toward broader commercial leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Partnerships
- Lead business development efforts across pharma, biotech, CROs, and diagnostic laboratories
- Identify and prioritize opportunities in oncology drug development, biomarker strategy, and precision medicine
- Build and manage a pipeline of high-value partnership opportunities
- Develop tailored partnership strategies including pilots, data collaborations, and enterprise agreements
Deal Leadership
- Own the full deal lifecycle from initial outreach through contract execution
- Structure and negotiate complex agreements including strategic collaborations, service agreements, and co-development partnerships
- Partner with internal stakeholders to move opportunities from scientific validation to commercial execution
- Contribute to pricing strategy and scalable partnership models
External Market Engagement
- Serve as a key external representative to senior stakeholders across pharma and diagnostics
- Build relationships across clinical development, translational research, and precision medicine teams
- Represent the company at industry conferences and partnering events
Commercial Strategy
- Help shape go-to-market strategy across pharma and laboratory segments
- Refine messaging, positioning, and target account strategy
- Translate market feedback into product, positioning, and commercialization insights
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with scientific, clinical, and operational teams to align commercial efforts with technical capabilities
- Support development of internal processes for pipeline tracking, forecasting, and deal execution
- Contribute to broader strategic planning and growth initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, PhD, MD, MS) strongly preferred
- 7+ years of business development, partnerships, or commercial leadership experience in life sciences
- Demonstrated success closing complex deals with pharmaceutical, biotech, or diagnostic partners
- Strong understanding of oncology, molecular diagnostics, precision medicine, or related fields
- Experience navigating long, complex enterprise sales cycles
- Strong executive presence with the ability to engage scientific, clinical, and business stakeholders
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, early-stage or growth environment
Preferred Experience
- Background in precision oncology, molecular diagnostics, pathology, or AI-enabled healthcare solutions
- Experience with biomarker partnerships, companion diagnostics, or clinical trial collaboration models
- Existing network within pharma business development or translational medicine teams
- Prior experience in a high-growth or venture-backed environment
